Meet Seamus

Seamus Enright, Associate Pastor

Seamus Enright was born in the snowy northern city of Burlington, VT in the same year that humankind first set foot on the moon. The son of a former Franciscan Friar turned philosophy professor and a schoolteacher and artist, Seamus spent some of his early years as part of a social action/faith community in Richmond, VA, called “the Institute of Cultural Affairs” aka “The Ecumenical Institute.” Moving to Streamwood, IL with his parents for the Bicentennial year, Seamus completed catechism and first communion at St. John’s Catholic Church.

Living across the street from Eastview (then a Junior High School), Seamus got involved with a brand new United Methodist faith community that met in the school’s cafeteria and auditorium. It was on a youth retreat with this community that Seamus first heard God calling him to be a pastor. Alas, other interests beckoned and Seamus followed his father’s second career path into the building trades, specifically carpentry and cabinetmaking. In 1989, God’s prevenient grace brought Renee into Seamus’ life and in 1993 they were married.

Occasional churchgoers for several years, God continued to call Seamus according to His purposes and in 2001 Renee and Seamus began attending a United Methodist Church in Bartlett, IL. As part of this congregation, which turned out to be the same community that Seamus had worshipped with so many years earlier at Eastview, Seamus rediscovered his love of the Lord, the Truth that gives life meaning. During Disciple bible study in 2002, Seamus was finally able to clearly hear God’s call to pastoral ministry.

A recent graduate of Judson University in Elgin, Seamus is currently enrolled at Chicago Theological Seminary in pursuit of his Master of Divinity degree. Seamus is a certified candidate for Elders orders in the Elgin District, Northern Illinois Conference and is a licensed local pastor. Seamus’ prayer for Cornerstone is that together we will live out of God’s Love so completely that everyone can see that the Kingdom which is to come is also right now.
