January Mission of the Month

Soup Kettles (Purple Band)

Goes to support the Elgin Area Soup Kettles that operate out of local churches to

provide a hot meal to those in need seven days a week.

February Mission of the Month

Nothing But Nets (Red Band) #982015
Malaria is killing children daily because they have no protection from mosquitoes. In the poorest parts of the world, insecticide-treated bed nets are the most cost-effective way to prevent malaria. One bed net costs $10 and can safely last a family for about 4 years due to a long lasting insecticide woven into the net fabric.

March Mission of the Month

Pastor Al Family Crisis Fund (Purple Band)   

Money from this fund goes to help those undergoing financial difficulties. Money has been used to help pay for medicines, rent, heat, and electric bills, among other things.

April Mission of the Month

Clara Biswass, Missionary in Cambodia (Indigo Band)   #13952Z

Clara is a missionary of the General Board of Global Ministries assigned as a community worker in Cambodia. She works to improve the lives of impoverished children in Phnom Penh, many of whom are homeless and live in the streets.

May Mission of the Month

Cornerstone Youth (Purple Band)

Supports the work camp mission trip by providing some scholarship money and

helping to keep the cost down for each of the participants.

June Mission of the Month

Rockford Urban Ministries (RUM) (Blue Band) #60000129

RUM is an outreach of 19 area United Methodist Churches. RUM supports affordable housing and community development especially through its Work Camp program. Volunteers can work an hour, a day or a week. RUM also reaches out to IV drug users and street women through Harm Reduction Outreach.

July Mission of the Month

Children's Fund for Christian Mission (Yellow Band) #2000000

Contributions are made to a select group of mission programs that are chosen for their value in helping children understand "being in mission." Contributions will be divided evenly among the designated projects for 2010.

August Mission of the Month

Pastor's Support, Lithuania (Burgandy Band) #14715A

Over 50 years, Methodists in Lithuania had been denied their places of worship and existence as a religious body. It was decided to launch an initiative to renew Methodism in Lithuania. The goal of this is to provide basic salary support for pastors. We will have first hand testimony from Rev. Matt Johnson, Barb and Steve Johnson's son, a pastor in Geneva, IL.

September Mission of the Month

Society of St. Andrew (Red Band)   #801600

The main purpose of Society of St. Andrew is to feed hungry people throughout the U.S. With their main projects: Potato Project, Gleaning Network, and Harvest of Hope they invite people to participate in a hands-on ministry of gleaning fresh produce. They also have an educational component.

October Mission of the Month

Interfaith Food Pantry /P.A.D.S. Elgin (Purple Band)

Money from these funds go to provide food through the Interfaith Food Pantry, and

overnight shelter to those in need in the Elgin area through PADS.

November Mission of the Month

ChildServ (Green Band)   #50000011

ChildServ's mission is to help children and their families build better lives through an array of services  for children, youth and their families in under-resourced communities in Lake, DuPage and Cook counties.

December Mission of the Month

Heifer International (Orange Band) #982532-1

Heifer International is a world wide self-help organization that provides livestock, such as heifers, goats,sheep, pigs, rabbits, bees, chickens, water buffalo and other animals, as well as agricultural services to more than 84 countries. Each recipient of an animal agrees to give the first female offspring to someone else in need.

Cornerstone Church is a Rainbow Covenant Church. Cornerstone fully participates in the mission and ministry of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church through our apportioned dollars and then goes the second mile to support selected mission projects throughout the year.
